Iceman is the fruit of my first linebreeding on Maia and he comes with a story attached (see pictures below) for it was by some strange genetic cooincidence that he bears the foot mark of a her heron on his back. It would be most appropriate if the heron was his "guardian" for Ace's owner Billie K tells me that she saw a heron in her backyard when Zeeza was back in PA for the breeding. Even weirder than that is the fact that on almost every outing for water training this summer, I have seen herons fly over us...more than I have seen my whole life!

Ice is a real sweetheart to both live with and train. He is quite probably one of the  calmest Springers I have had in a loooong time (maybe of all time) and has a patient, very gentle disposition around small children. As we expected when we bred two very smart, highly biddable dogs, this is also an an extremely SMART, obedient dog.  Ice has a lovely spaniel temperament, is not overly soft, yet his desire to please is incredible.

Physically, Ice is a gorgeous, very well proportioned dog with great legs. Now fully grown, he weighs in around 50 pounds of pure muscle making him a strong, good sized male. I love his very gentle, but intense jet black eyes!

He's not a rocket like Ruby, but he was a very early maturing puppy, and we shot his first pigeons around 6 months old. He has a really bold flush, perfect mouth, (untouched) delivery to hand (with no fumbling) and I am really enjoying the heck out of working with this young gentleman.

Ice loves to find birds and like all my dogs has the excellent long range  marking I demand to compensate for my uncanny ability to wing-tip roosters on the edge of gun range. On the water he is tenacious, never giving up or turning back no matter how long he has to go. But, the thing I love about him the very, very best is that he is NOT a girl and won't have heat cycles or any other girley issues that might slow us down! Woo hoo - Boyz Rool! ;o)

After making his wild rooster debuts in both Montana and South Dakota in 2008 and getting a crash course in Wild Bird Hunting 101,  the Iceman proved to be a bushbusting powerhouse, super strong retriever. He earned his JH and WDX titles in early May 2009, is being steadied to flush and fall over Spring/Summer,  and then we will rejoin the field events again in the Fall.  He's doing GREAT so far!
